Teacher notes; life's building blocks.

This lesson partly covers 'the processes of life', level 'E' from the 5-14 document.

Although this level is not taught at this stage, it was thought that it would be a worthwhile exercise to use cells as a basic platform from which the pupils could see a progression from cell, to body tissue, to body system. A very basic introduction on cells is given, with some pictures of what different human cells look like.

At the start of this lesson, the microscope is also included. Again, this is normally taught at level 'E', however it was thought that a brief introduction at this stage, would be beneficial to the pupil before he/she reaches the secondary sector.

Perhaps having a microscope in the classroom to view various samples would enhance the lesson.
