Welcome to the Overview of PrimaryScience.net Online Resource PrimaryScience.net is designed to help teach Science at Key Stage 2 in England, Wales and Ireland, and 5-14 Levels C&D in Scotland. The site contains 50 logically sequenced lessons divided up into 9 Units of Work, and has in excess of 400 interactions, which might be
Each of the 50 lessons has Teacher Notes with it, explaining the background of the lesosn in a little more detail and often suggesting how the concepts within that lesson can be extended in a practical way. Currently there is also an indication of which level within the Scottish 5-14 curriculum the lesson covers. We are currently making each lesson available with audio links, so that it can be read to a child if they find the text too challenging. There is a summary document which you can print off and retain to remind you which lessons have been done and when - very useful when spreading the lessons over more than one year and more than one teacher. There is a wordbank for the site, providing definitions of more than 200 key terms used, and quick links to appropriate parts of those the lesson where that concept is dealt with. Again, this area is enhanced through the use of Hangman and interactive Crossword exercises to help solidify retention of these terms in a fun way. The 50 lessons are backed up with 42 challenging, formal homework exercises complete with marking schemes, all available in 3 different formats - Word, RTF (good for computers without Microsoft Office installed), and PDF, which should open up on any computer. There are a further 38 informal homework exercises; where the crosswords can be printed off showing the clues and the answer grids. They are also available as differentiated tasks, containing a wordbank. If you are logged on using the Trial account, you do not have access to these homeworks as a pupil might register to get answers to their homework; although visiting the Homeworks area allows you to see one of them, to give you an idea of what they look like. If you are logged in using a Pupil account, you will not be able to access any of the homeworks. Click here to visit the homework area now. There is also a 'chill out zone' which contains 8 challenging games to make you think, which you may or may not decide to use. All in all, I am sure you will agree that the site has a lot to offer. Better still, an annual site licence for your school costs only £100, and can be paid using eLC's if your school qualifies for them. Each fully registered school gets two usernames with passwords - one for the pupils; and one for the staff. There is no limit to the number of logins you have during the period of subscription. Logging on as a Pupil gives access to every area except the Homeworks; and also only works between the hours of 9am and 4pm. Logging on as a Teacher gives access to every area, obviously including the Homeworks; and works 24 hours a day, every day, so that staff can prepare lessons from home - which is also included in the licence cost. If you want to purchase a licence now but funds won't be available for a while, no problem - simply order a licence here and state the date you would like to be invoiced in the 'comments' box. We'll get back to you with your account details. There is a £7 admin fee for this option, making the total to be invoiced £107.
